Warcraft of the Wild West 3ds max, Photoshop, ZBrush October 2010
Hey guys'n'gals.
The idea behind the piece is a fusion of the Warcraft universe and the more true-to-life Wild West era of the American frontier. A troll gunslinger, if you will.
I've used ZBrush for the majority of the piece, importing the base subtools from Max, and I've painted the background in Photoshop, with a wacom tablet. I've never done digital matte painting before and this piece is not meant to showcase it by any means. I was happy enough with the way it came out to use it, but it's in the 3D gallery because the centerpiece is obviously the character.
I have a couple of ZBrush turntable and close-up views here
The guns were modeled entirely in Max - I did not touch them in ZBrush.
After the sculpting was done, I rendered out different diffuse and shadow passes and composited everything together in Photoshop, with quite a bit of post color & detail work.
